They Are Blessed!

Un/Heard’s season opener, They Are Blessed!, is a celebration of our Non-Binary LGBTQ+ community and a solemn remembrance of the lives lost due to the excessive bullying this community endures. Join us on August 25th, 2024, at 5:00 pm at Central Presbyterian Church, a venue known for its passionate advocacy for the LGBTQ+ community's well-being.

"They Are Blessed!" will feature music by living black, Latino, and white composers as well as composers from the LGBTQIA+ and non-binary communities. One of our commissioned pieces includes the phrase "Blessed are the peacemakers" from the Beatitudes.

In addition to the poignant music that will explore both themes of celebration and moments of sorrow for the bullying our community suffers and the lives lost, this concert will partner with organizations in our city that advocate for mental health and well-being. They Are Blessed! will solidify the message that Austin welcomes all LGBTQIA+ people and advocates for Texas to be a warm place where we stop surviving and start modeling what an embracing community is.

Un/Heard

Austin-based professional choir advocating for LGBTQ+ rights through meaningful performances filled with quality music, resources, and deep care for connection.

With They Are Blessed! We hope to bring to Austin a deep sense of empathy and realization that we are overlooking the extreme situations our non-binary community is suffering through. Any change is difficult for society, but we have the power to see beyond our struggles with adaptation and create a more inclusive place for those discovering more about themselves. Many people struggle with not understanding why others do not "fit" into their preconceived notions. We want to reach further and appeal to their humanity through thoughtful music programming and resources that help them see what truly matters: our people.
